Madoc Rocks started in 2002, manufacturing hand made rock coasters with rock from the Madoc, Ontario area. The area is geologically on the edge of the Canadian Shield, where volcanic silicate rock meets sedimentary calcitic rock. The tectonic forces and chemical makeup of the area has been responsible for the incredible diversity of rock we have been able to access and use in Madoc Rocks products. The colours and patterns in the rock, combined with our demanding selection requirements, have made our coasters as successful as they have become.
Since our beginning, we have cut over two million slices, to produce over 700,000 coasters. With all of that experience, we have become very adept at selecting rock and knowing how to slice it to get the best results. This learned ability has encouraged us to recently expand the business beyond coasters, cherished by many customers, into two more artistic lines, that enhance the amazing imagery and colours in the best of our rocks. The first is Quarry Cut Designs, a jewellery line developed and run by my younger daughter Sam. The second is Art in a Rock, exposing unimaginable, natural imagery in the rock, which is displayed in art prints. This new offering, is run by my other daughter Ali. This truly is a family business.
Mother Nature is the real artist - we simply capture the beauty she's created and pass it on to you.
